This weeks interview is with the gorgeous Karina White. Since entering a Girlfriend Model Search at 14 years old, Karina's career has taken her around the world and she has lived in exciting cities like London and Spain. She has even once had the job of posing as Candice Swaneopoel's beauty double.
Name: Karina White
How old were you when you started modelling, and how did you get into it?
I was fourteen years old when I went to support my best friend in the Girlfriend Model Search. After being spotted by the judges in the crowd, I was asked me to enter the competition and a couple of months later I found myself in Sydney for the finals.
My friend is now a very successful alternative model and singer, luckily it was an experience that brought us both closer together.
What are your most and least favourite parts of the industry?
My favourite part of the industry is the immense passion and work ethic that everyone seems to have. Working in fashion is not an easy way to make a living, but at the same time it can be very rewarding and everybody is inspired to make it work for them.
My least favourite part is waiting... always waiting...
What has been your career highlight so far?
I've had a couple of surreal, pinch-yourself-moments; the first was being published in Vogue while working in Spain. The second was working with Candice Swanepoel for a Maxfactor Campaign in London.
What are your plans for the next twelve months?
For the next twelve months I will be focusing on my degree at WAAPA. A working holiday to South Africa may be on the cards for the end of the year... You never know ;)
You lived in London for a while, what was that like?
The energy in London is indescribable, there are always things to see and interesting people to meet. Everyone in the city seems to have a wonderful sense of humour and it makes up for the weather. I'd move back there in a heartbeat.
What is you go to outfit choice ?
I tend to mix a lot of masculine and feminine styles in my day to day wardrobe. For castings, I can't go past skinny jeans with boots, a white tee shirt and my black leather, biker jacket.
What is the best advice you have ever received, and who gave it to you?
My mum taught me that everyone you meet knows something that you don't.
Do you have a signature look that clients tend to book you for especially? What is it?
Overseas they see a blonde Australian girl and immediately think commercial or swimwear, but it's much more fun proving to be versatile and never shooting the same way twice.
What do you do to stay in shape? Do you have a special diet?
I enjoy being outdoors, and being active has always been a part of my everyday life... Rather than stick to a diet, I enjoy healthy whole foods and eat in moderation.
Perth fashion festival is coming up, what advice would you give to a model who was just starting out?
Confidence is key! PFF is always looking to discover and showcase new faces, you just have to show them what you've got.
